Historical Background of Ndejje University NDU

Established in 1992, Ndejje University (NDU) is the oldest private university and the fastest growing in Uganda. In 1995 the University gained its status under the ownership of the Anglican Diocese of Luweero. Later in 2002, the ownership base was expanded to include all six Church of Uganda Dioceses in Buganda Region in what became known as “Ndejje University Foundation Consortium.” The Consortium is registered as a Company Limited by Guarantee, not having share capital. It is responsible for appointing the Chancellor, the Vice Chancellor, and Chairperson of the Council including members of the University Council.

In 2009 the University was chattered by the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) of Uganda meaning that all certificates awarded at the University where nationally and internationally recognized. Also, all courses offered in the university were accredited by the same body. The University further subscribes to the Inter University Council for East Africa and Association of African universities.

Ndejje university through its multiple programs (Day, Evening, Weekend and Distance Learning) offers and awards certificates in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses to a student population of about 8,000 both Ugandan and foreign. The University has a steady growth rate each academic year, with two intakes each year, that is, January and August intakes respectively.

The Mission of the University is to provide Christian based high quality and innovative teaching, research and outreach services.

Ndejje University Campuses

Main Campus

Main campus is also located in a rural setting at Ndejje Hill, Luweero District, about 42 kilometers (26 miles) north of Kampala near Lady Irene. The campus provides a cool, natural and quiet environment favorable for any study purposes.

Main campus is home to the main administrative block, faculty administrative offices, lecture rooms, departmental offices, state of the laboratories (Science, Engineering and ICT), the main library, and a state of the art sports complex.

GETTING THERE

Main campus can be accessed by both public and private means. By public; a Taxi will drop you at the campus main entrance.

Kampala Campus

This campus is located in an urban setting along Balintuma Road near Mengo hospital. The campus is home to the University’s Graduate school, all faculty administrative offices and lecture rooms, state of the art ICT laboratories, two well stocked libraries and a health center.

The campus is generally ideal for the working class. At Kampala the University through it various faculties runs Day, Evening and Weekend programs.

GETTING THERE

Kampala campus can be accessed by taxi from a number of directions. From the city center a taxi to Mengo – Lubaga is just enough for you to get to the campus. From the bus stop where the taxi drops you, take a three minutes walk past Mengo hospital Main gate to the campus. From Nakulabye, get to Balintuma road and drive straight or walk straight until you get to the campus.

Lady Irene Campus

Lady Irene the mother campus is located in a rural setting at Ndejje Hill, Luweero District, about 42 kilometers (26 miles) north of Kampala. The campus provides an environment favorable for study activities that require maximum concentration.

Lady Irene campus is home to students’ hostels, Faculty offices such as Education, Basic science and Information Technology, Lecture rooms, the health center, cafeteria and some departmental offices.

GETTING THERE

Lady Irene campus can be accessed by both public and private means. By public; a taxi will drop you at Ndejje Trading canter, and thereafter you can walk or take a motorcycle (Boda-Boda) to the campus main entrance.
