Mbarara University Postgraduate Admissions For the Academic Year

Applications are invited from eligible candidates for the following programmes offered by MUST beginning September 2024.

POSTGRADUATE PROGRAMMES

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The minimum requirements for admission to any Postgraduate degree are:

  1. Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or it’s equivalent with at least 5 passes
  2. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal
  3. An Honors degree from an accredited degree-awarding institution
  4. Candidates who have a Pass degree should have at least a Postgraduate Diploma with at least a credit from an accredited degree-awarding
  5. For applicants to clinical programmes;
    1. Have documentary evidence of Internship Training indicating disciplines and
    2. Be registered or eligible for registration with relevant professional bodies such as Uganda Medical and Dental Practitioners Council, Uganda Nurses and Midwives Council,
    3. A current certificate of good standing with the Medical Practitioners’ Council of the country of origin.

Additionally, for international applicants:

  1. Applicants whose first language or medium of instruction is not English, must provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language.

I. Master of Business Administration (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree

B.     FACULTY OF COMPUTING AND INFORMATICS

  1. Postgraduate Diploma in Business Informatics (Duration 1 years)

A degree in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

   2. Postgraduate Diploma in Health Information Technology (Duration 1 years) A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Information Technology/Information Systems/Computer Engineering/Software Engineering or any other computing related field or other STEM-related degree from a recognized higher institution of learning

OR

A bachelor’s degree in Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry, Pharmacy and any other health care- related degree from a recognized higher institution of learning

III. Postgraduate Diploma in Information Systems (Duration 1 years)

A degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or Software Engineering or Information Technology or Computer Engineering from a recognized institution

OR

A degree in any other STEM-related field with evidence of having taken acceptable courses in information systems

IV. Masters in Business Informatics (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

OR

A good postgraduate diploma in Computing, Information Technology, Information Systems, Informatics, Business Studies or a degree in other STEM-related fields from a recognized institution

V.   Master of Science in Health Information Technology (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in health care related field (e.g Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Dentistry) or Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Information Technology from a recognized institution

VI. Master of Science in Information Systems (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in Information Systems or Computer Science or Software Engineering or Information Technology or Computer Engineering or equivalent

C. FACULTY OF INTERDISCIPLINARY STUDIES

  1. Master of Arts in Peace and Conflict Studies (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in any development studies related discipline

II.  Master of Arts in Development Studies (Duration 2 years)

X. Master of Medicine in Ophthalmology (Duration 3 years)

XI. Master of Medicine in Paediatrics & Child Health (Duration 3 years)

XVIII. Master of Science in Medical Microbiology (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in Health Sciences i.e. Human Medicine, Dental Surgery, Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science or its equivalent

XIX. Master of Science in Pharmacology (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in Health Sciences i.e. Human Medicine, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, Nursing, Biochemistry, Physiology or relevant field such as Botany and Zoology

XX. Master of Science in Physiology (Duration 2 years)

Evidence of completion of internship and registration with a pharmacy professional body Motivation letter indicating why you are in pursuing this programme

Two letters of recommendation from employer and former university

A 2-page concept paper of a proposed research topic in the field of interest. The concept paper should have the following structure: 1. Background, 2. Problem Statement, 3. Objectives, 4. Proposed methods, 5. Significance and 6. References

XXII. Master of Science in Pharmacognosy and Natural Medicine Sciences (Duration 2 years)

An honors degree in Health Sciences, Chemistry or Biological Sciences Motivation letter indicating why you are in pursuing this programme Two letters of recommendation from employer and former university

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Graduate Programmes.

  1. Hold the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE)/O’ Level or its equivalent with a minimum of a pass in at least 5 subjects obtained at the same sitting.
  2. Hold the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE)/A’ Level with at least 2 principal passes or its equivalent obtained at the same sitting for applicants to a degree programme.
  • Applicants should have an honors degree from an accredited degree awarding institution.
  1. PhD applicants should have a masters degree from a Chartered degree awarding institution.

Specific Admission Requirements

In addition to the minimum entry requirements, there are specific requirements for each of the programme which candidates must fulfil before admission is given. The details of which are captured on MUST website ( www.must.ac.ug ).

Applicants should note that;

  1. All academic documents presented must be from accredited institutions
  2. CASES OF IMPERSONATION, FALSIFICATION OF DOCUMENTS OR GIVING FALSE/INCOMPLETE INFORMATION WHENEVER DISCOVERED WILL LEAD TO AUTOMATIC CANCELLATION OF ADMISSION.
  • Completed Applications must be accompanied with certified copies of academic documents

  2. Applicants whose first language is not English or did not go through an education system with English as a medium of instruction will be required to provide evidence from a recognized English language training institution that they have sufficient command of English language to cope with the programmes.

SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS

All applications MUST be submitted online through https://applications.must.ac.ug

ONLINE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

  1. Go to https://applications.must.ac.ug
  2. If you don’t have an Access Code, click “Click here to get an Access Code”, fill in the form and submit. An Access Code will then be sent to your email and phone number. If you already have an Access Code, proceed to step 3.
  3. Enter you email address and Access Code that has been sent to your phone number to login
  4. Select the application category i.e. Direct Entry and click “Apply Now”
  5. Fill in the application form and submit
  6. Click “Pay for Form” to generate a payment reference number to be used for paying application fees in the bank
  7. If you’re a degree or diploma holder, Click “Print Form” and attach the printed form to the hard copies of certified academic and other the supporting documents and mail the hard copies to the University or submit it to any of the liaison offices. Alternatively, you can email the soft copies of the academic documents to admissions@must.ac.ug.
  8. Go to the bank and pay the application fees using the payment reference number generated in “Step 6”.
