The Uganda Technical College UTC Elgon
Uganda Technical College Elgon (UTC Elgon) is a Government Tertiary Institution, located in Eastern Uganda,providing technical education training at Diploma and Certificate level to the community from North-eastern and Eastern, in addition to the population from the rest of Uganda and in the East and Central African Region. It is about 14 kms on Mbale – Budadiri road, at the foot of Mt. Elgon.
History of UTC Elgon
UTC Elgon was founded in 1931 as a Technical School, Artisan Training Centre, to train First World War veterans in technical skills. After a long time of existence, it was later elevated to Elgon Technical Institute in 1972 to offer Technical Certificate Courses in Engineering Craft programmes.
In 1984, it was upgraded to a Tertiary Institution, Uganda Technical College, to offer Diploma Courses in engineering fields, in addition to the Craft courses. The College has attained competence in training of students to diploma level, and it is planned that it transforms into a Polytechnic between 2010 and 2016.
Vision Statement
The vision of UTC Elgon is to be a center of Excellency in the provision and dissemination of knowledge and skills that contribute to the production of an all round individual in Engineering, Science and Technology.
Mission Statement
To enable trainees acquire appropriate knowledge and skills in Engineering, Science and Technology, and similar fields of training aimed at producing competent graduates who will be able to contribute towards individual and national development.
