List Of LC5 In Uganda

Who are the new LC5 chairpersons?

NRM fought tooth and nail to reclaim Kiboga, Mubende, Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Sembabule.

Jinja City voters preferred a comedian to seasoned politicians. The newly elected Jinja City mayor Alton Okocha Kasolo is an entertainer.

Commonly known as Kasolo in the famous local TV comedian skit, Swengere, the political novice on National Unity Platform (NUP) ticket trounced seasoned politician, the former Kagoma County MP Dr Frank Nabwiso (FDC) and NRM’s Robert Kanusu to the coveted first Jinja City Mayor.

Nabwiso was a very vocal legislator while still in Parliament and was passionate about health and environment issues.

By Friday afternoon, 76 of the 128 chairpersons and city mayors whose victory had been declared by the Electoral Commission (EC), belonged to the ruling NRM.

NUP had 15 winners while independent candidates totalled 17.

FDC had 8, UPC 6, Democratic party (DP) 1, and Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) 1.

NUP’s Rashida Namboowa of Butambala, NRM’s Annet Nandutu of Bulambuli and Jemimah Bekunda of Sheema district triumphed in a male-dominated race.

NUP’s Florence Namayanja beat male contenders in race to scoop the Masaka City mayorship. She becomes the only woman mayor for the 10 cities in the country.

Namayanja is the incumbent MP for Bukoto Central and having been a former Kampala City deputy mayor before becoming an MP put her ahead of other candidates in the race.

It is also believed that being a NUP candidate put her in comfortable lead, with Masaka being one of those NUP strongholds.

Many NRM candidates from the greater Masaka, including the Vice-President, Edward Ssekandi, agriculture minister Vincent Ssempijja and minister Florence Nakiwala Kiyingi, among others, were trounced in the parliamentary polls.

Just like the presidential and parliamentary elections, NUP candidates won in Wakiso, Mukono, Luwero, Kayunga, Butamabala, Mityana, Kampala, Mpigi, Masaka City and Jinja City.

NRM fought tooth and nail to reclaim Kiboga, Mubende, Nakaseke, Nakasongola and Sembabule.

Luwero which is considered NRM’s political Mecca, has for the first time voted for an opposition candidate — Erasto Kibirango of NUP as the district boss. Political analysts have reasoned that the NUP wave has affected Luwero.

Analysts also say the increasing number of youth getting interested in politics and the urbanisation has affected Luwero from a dominantly NRM stronghold.

NRM won in seven districts in Karamoja sub-region.

In the Lango sub-region, UPC won in the districts of Apac, Alebtong, Otuke and Omolatar. UPC candidates also won in Kwania and Kole.

Uganda’s oldest political party, the Democratic Party (DP) and the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) each picked up one seat.

DP’s Zimula Kasirye took Kassanda district while ANT’s Wilfred Saka won in Terego.

Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) took Sironko, Buikwe, Mbale City, Serere, Dokolo, Soroti City and Kampala City where the incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago retained his Lord Mayor seat.

In Mukono and other districts…

In Mukono, one would expect former Mukono South MP, the Rev. Peter Bakaluba Mukasa, the new district chairperson to find stiff competition with the outgoing boss, Andrew Senyonga, but many new political players performed even better.

Voters accuse Senyonga of being disrespectful.

NRM took Kisoro, Kasese, Koboko, Kaberamaido, Butebo, Bulambuli, Manafwa, Bududa, Namisindwa, Bundibugyo, Busia, Arua, Nebbi, Kabarole, Hoima City, Hoima district, Kikuube, Rukiga, Rubanda and Rukungiri among others.

In Rukungiri, NRM swept all councillor positions, so did NUP in Masaka.
