Access School of Nursing and Midwifery
About Access School of Nursing and Midwifery
ACCESS began training community health workers and assistant nurses in 2004 in response to the shortage of health workers in Central Uganda and lack of access to health care in Nakaseke District. To date, ACCESS has trained 97 health workers through our community health worker training programs. We are now excited to begin training nurses in order to increase access to health care in rural Uganda.
Our health worker graduates currently work in over seven districts in Uganda, and throughout the East Africa Region providing care to thousands of East Africans, mostly in rural communities. On average, an adult living in Nakaseke makes $30/month. Our graduates will make more than $200/month working as nurses in clinics and hospitals.
In November, 2015, ACCESS welcomed its first class of students to the new Health Training Institute. The 2½ year nursing and midwifery certificate program includes courses in nursing skills and clinical judgment, health system delivery and management, and community health.
