Uganda requires its residents to register their motor vehicles and display vehicle registration plates. Uganda Government vehicles are written with red paint on a yellow/orange or white background. They all start with UG, followed by a number number finally a letter code to identify the ministry, department, or agency.
Motor vehicle registration is the registration of a motor vehicle with a government authority, either compulsory or otherwise. The purpose of motor vehicle registration is to establish a link between a vehicle and an owner or user of the vehicle. This link might be used for taxation or crime detection purposes.
Vehicle registration proves that your vehicle is safe to drive on the road and that you have paid the proper fees and taxes associated with your country DMV. This differs from the Title of a vehicle, which (explained above) is proof of ownership and other information about the car.

Insure your Vehicle beforehand.
Download the “ Drivers & Vehicles” app from the app store.
Register yourself or continue as a guest.
Go to Vehicle and select Vehicle Registration.
Click on Replace Registration Card and apply for the service.
Classifications Of Car Registration In Uganda
Registration Classification. Every motor vehicle shall be registered under one of the following described classifications: (a) private passenger automobiles; (b) private trucks; and (c) private motorcycles, scooters, or motor wheel attachments.

The custom duty value of imported cars in Uganda is calculated using the General Agreement on Trade and Tariffs (G.A.T.T) valuation method. As a guide, information on the taxation or tariff on importing used vehicles in Uganda is as follows: Import Duty: 15% of dutiable value. VAT: 17% of VAT value.
