Emergency medical services, also known as ambulance services or paramedic services, are emergency services that provide urgent pre-hospital treatment and stabilisation for serious illness and injuries and transport to definitive care.

Severe or persistent vomiting. Sudden injury due to a motor vehicle accident, burns or smoke inhalation, near drowning, deep or large wound, or other injuries. Sudden, severe pain anywhere in the body. Sudden dizziness, weakness, or change in vision. Swallowing a poisonous substance. Emergency Situation means a situation in which there is a probable danger to life or property or immediate risk to the continuity or safety of supply or distribution of electricity or telecommunications and computer media.

Current thinking defines four phases of emergency management: mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. There are entire courses on each of these phases. To take appropriate actions in any emergency, follow the three basic emergency action steps Check-Call-Care. Check the scene and the victim. Call the local emergency number to activate the EMS system. Ask a conscious victim’s permission to provide care.

The aims of primary emergency care are identified in the evidence. Protection against further injury. Preservation of life. Promotion of recovery. Prevention of injuries for people at any age.
