How deep are boreholes in Uganda?
Most boreholes in Uganda tap groundwater from the weathered and/or fractured basement aquifer. The depth and yield of these boreholes varies, for example depending on the local rock lithology and the degree of weathering and fracturing: most boreholes are less than 80 m deep but they can be as deep as 200 m.
How many days does it take to drill a borehole?
On-site work can span 10-15 days: drilling is 3 or 4 days, and then pipe work and cables need to be installed, the submersible pump placed in the borehole and tested, pumping to clear the supply. Water is then sent to the laboratory to verify purity. This is likely to take two to three weeks in all.
What is the lifespan of a borehole?
As a general rule of thumb, a properly installed and sized borehole should last 8-10 years. If you have only just installed a borehole, you’re likely to see years of service from your current equipment. This is extendable with good care and frequent maintenance.
