What Is Motorcycle Registration?
Is the registration of a motor vehicle with a government authority, either compulsory or otherwise. The purpose of motor vehicle registration is to establish a link between a vehicle and an owner or user of the vehicle. This link might be used for taxation or crime detection purposes. While almost all motor vehicles are uniquely identified by a vehicle identification number, only registered vehicles display a vehicle registration plate and carry a vehicle registration certificate.

Procedure

In person application:
- Visit any of the licencesing office near to you with all the required documents and the recommended application fee
- Approach the services desk and request for assistance for a search and certify motor vehicle detail, pay the search fee
- Upon which the attending officer will do a URA computer system data base search and issue you with the information immediately
- If you require a certificate of the vehicle search you will be required to pay an additional certificate fee and be issued the certificate by the issuing authority
Online application:
- Visit the web portalclick on e-services.
- Under motor vehicle, click on search and certification
- Capture applicants TIN, if available, details will be auto populated in grey, or select No if you do not have a TIN and fill in the applicant details.
- Enter the motor vehicle number that you need to get details; select the type of application; fill in payment details; and then submit application. Upon submission, you will receive an acknowledgment receipt.
- Click on the payment registration number to generate the payment slip that you will take to the bank to effect the payment.
- Upon payment in the bank, go back to click on e-services under motor vehicle and Select Motor vehicle search details.
- Enter the reference number and search code. Upon submission, you will see the vehicle search details.
- URA will notify you about your application status within 2 working days after receiving the application.
Note: If you paid for Search and certification you will get copies of the vehicle details from the licensing officer. However, if you paid for search you will only be in position to view the details online.
What Do Red Number Plates Mean In Uganda?
Uganda requires its residents to register their motor vehicles and display vehicle registration plates. Uganda Government vehicles are written with red paint on a yellow/orange or white background. They all start with UG, followed by a number number finally a letter code to identify the ministry, department, or agency.
How Much Is A Motorcycle Number Plate In Uganda?

For issuance of motor cycle personalised number plates, it costs Shs1.5m until it is transferred from one motorcycle to another and also charged two per cent of the existing fee.
