How To Get Express Passport In Uganda

The definition of expediting is to make a process happen sooner or faster. Through this option, the application process to apply for a new passport, renewal of an expired passport or other passport related matters is shortened. The estimated processing time is 6 to 8 weeks when expedited through the post office.

PUBLIC GUIDE TO UGANDA PASSPORT SERVICES

Uganda travel documents may only be held by citizens of Uganda. They are processed and issued only by Government of Uganda through the Directorate of Immigration Control (DCIC) and at three Ugandan Missions abroad: Washington DC (United States of America), London (United Kingdom) and Pretoria (Republic of South Africa).

We have three Passport Control Offices in Kampala, Mbale and Mbarara, The fourth Office, Gulu, will be operational at the beginning of FY 2016/16.
The main Passport Office is situated at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Plot 75 Jinja Road (entrance is on Old Portbell Rd.

The other Passport Offices are located at the RDC Building Mbarara, The Regional Administration Block, Republic Street, Mbale and in Gulu (soon opening).

We also have Regional Immigration Offices which act as passport Application Collection Centers, where you can take your passport application for processing and then you collect a ready Passport. These include: Jinja, Masaka, Fort Portal, Arua, Hoima, Masindi, Gulu (soon to become a full Passport Control Office) and Lira.

REQUIREMENTS AND PROCEDURE FOR NEW PASSPORT

General Requirements

1. Dully filled Passport application form G

2. 3 Colored Passport size photographs with a white back ground.

3. Recommender must have a copy of the National ID of the Recommender

4. Applicant must attach a copy of National ID or National Identification Number

5. Attach copies of academic documents for proof of profession(where applicable)

6. Attach proof of payment of prescribed fees

7. Attach a copy of birth certificate, adoption order consent letter from parents/guardians in case of minors

8. Attach any other information that may be relevant to the application

9. When the passport is ready, the applicant will be alerted to proceed and pick up their passport.

10. Attach bank payment receipt.

PASSPORT APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Step 1

Applicant should obtain Passport application Form G and any other information from the nearest Immigration Office or download on the Immigration website: www.immigration.go.ug

Fill in the form in clear handwriting

The applicant should then visit any URA revenue collection bank such as Bank of Africa, Diamond Trust Bank, Stanbic, Crane, Barclays, Orient etc and pay passport fees. The Passport costs Uganda Shillings UGX 250,000 for normal applications or UGX 400,000 for Express applications (UGX 250,000 for Ordinary Passports and UGX 150,000 for Express Processing making the total of UGX 400,000), UGX 400,000 for Official Passports and UGX 500,000 for Diplomatic Passports. All fees are exclusive of bank charges which vary from bank to bank i.e. UGX 2200 to UGX 3000.

Step 4

You will be issued with a bank receipt which you will attach on your application.

Step 5

File your documents in a manila file folder and present them IN PERSON to the receiving officers at the Passport Receiving Section at the Ministry of Internal Affairs or your nearest Passport Control Office or the Regional Immigration Office. A receiving Slip will be issued to you indicating your receiving code and file number.

Warning: Avoid Middlemen or Kayungirizi. Applications submitted by Middlemen will not be accepted/received.

Step 6

Collect your passport in Person after ten working days (normal passport applications) or two (2) working days (for Express Passport Applications) from the point where you submitted the application, unless advised otherwise by an Immigration Officer. You will be required to present your Receiving Slip and identifications at the time of collecting your passport at the Passport Delivery Office.

REQUIREMENTS FOR RENEWAL OF UGANDA PASSPORT

1. Fill in Passport Form G.

2. Recommendation letter from a Professional known to the applicant, e.g, a teacher, Doctor Lawyer, Civil Servant. The covering letter should be addressed to the Passport Control Officer; Ministry of Internal Affairs; Kampala

3. Recommender must attach a photocopy of his/her National ID and sign on it

4. Attach photocopies of the old passport, Pages 45 and 47.

5. In the event you are making any changes, change of profession, names due to marital status, you will be required to attach the relevant legal proof of changes.

7. If you have a profession or making changes in your profession, ensure to attach a photocopy of your academic transcript or certificate
