What Is Traffic Fines?

The total amount of a traffic fine is made up of amounts required to be paid by state laws as well as county and city ordinances, which vary by jurisdiction. There are three levels of severity of traffic violations: infractions, misdemeanors, and felonies.

How To Pay For Traffic Fines In Uganda?

1. Go to the URA web portal www.ura.go.ug.

2. Log into your account to pay Uganda police traffic fines.

3. Click on E-services and choose Payments.

4. Then select Registration, under the Payments menu list.

On your Mobile, send EPS text message to 8888. It should be like this! Enter 8888 as the number to send the message to and type EPS followed by your car number eg EPS UAX000Z and send it to 8888 (SMS charges apply).

Enter in the EasyPay number as it appears on your fine. The EasyPay system will send a request to the supported authority and get the amount of the fine to be paid. Supply a reference number or description with the payment. This reference will then be attached to your payment.

Applicants should have a TIN that corresponds to their plate number.

Applicants should have a ticket number.

Applicant should have a valid phone number, email address, or both.

The Ways Through Which You Can Check For The Fines And Penalties Of The Vehicle In Uganda

OPTION 1 

THIS CAN BE DONE USING YOUR MOBILE PHONE:-

  1. On your mobile phone, send a Text EPS to 8888.
  2. Then type the number of your car Eg EPS UAX0003 and then send it to 8888.
  3. Then after few minutes, you will receive a message of your unpaid tickets (full details of the tickets)

OPTION 2 

This is the method by which you can check your penalties and fines on the spot:-

  1. The person has to go to the “Uganda Police Inspectorate of vehicles offices Naguru (opposite to spear motors) Nateete station, Katwe Station, old Kampala station, etc. 
  2. The person needs to carry a motor vehicle number which will be checked and it will show all the details of the vehicle. All the fines and the dues of the vehicle. They will show the whole when it is issued and where it was issued etc. 

How Long Does Traffic Fines Stay On Your Record In Uganda?

The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) has reportedly issued a countrywide instruction that all outstanding traffic fines issued in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act (CPA) should be cancelled after 18 months if no summons has been issued.

How Long Is A Traffic Fine Valid In Uganda?

Regardless of the term of prescription in terms of the Criminal Procedure Act this type of fine expires after 18 months if the summons was not served.

What Happens If I Don’t Pay My Traffic Fines In Uganda?

If you don’t pay or dispute your traffic fine by the due date, and if you do not appear in court to present your case, a warrant for your arrest will be issued automatically, when the case goes to court.

Does A Traffic Fine Go On Criminal Record In Uganda?

As soon as the person’s finger prints have been taken and a formal dossier opened, the person will get a criminal record if he pays the fine. Paying a normal speeding fine, however, does not fall under this rule and will not land you with a criminal record.
