This is a mandatory process of renewing or validating a driver’s license every two years. Renewal dates are stated behind the license card.
How To Renew Driving Permit In Uganda
- Go to the Uganda Revenue Authority website and generate the licence renewal payment registration slip/assessment form.
- Go to a bank (of your choice) and pay the appropriate fees to the URA (the bank will provide the account number). Alternatively, you can pay through your preferred mobile money service, PayWay, or using a debit/credit card.
- Go to the UDLS offices with the proof of payment/payment registration number, mandatory identification document, an original copy of the licence you want to renew; if you lost or damaged it, please go to the procedure of getting a duplicate licence.
- UDLS will issue the renewed licence.
Driving licences are renewed for one, three, and five years. You will get an SMS reminder to renew your current licence before it expires.

How Much Is It To Renew A Driving Permit In Uganda?
Get a learner/provisional driving licence. This costs Shs60,000 and is valid for three months. Renewing a learner driving licence also costs Shs60,000.

What Happens If You Don’t Renew Driving License?
If you do not renew your licence but carry on driving, you would not have a valid driving licence and so your motor insurance would not be valid. You would be committing a serious offence which carries stringent penalties, which could include a heavy fine and having your car seized by the police.
