LEVEL: BASIC TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE IN SOCIAL WORK
Objectives of the Program
General objective
The general objective of developing this Basic Technician Certificate course is to prepare frontline social workers, who under the supervision of qualified social workers, will engage in attending problems facing individuals, families and small groups; hence enhance their social functioning.
Specific Objectives
The specific objectives include the following:
- To enable students to acquire elementary social work knowledge and skills in order to understand clients’ problem situations.
- To prepare students who will be able to use social work practice methods to attend clients with diverse problems.
- To enable students relate theoretical knowledge and practical work situations.

Objectives of the Course

The general objective for developing the curriculum for NTA Level 7 is to produce qualified and competent generalist Social Work practitioners with professional practice knowledge and skills, who will provide social welfare services to individuals, families, groups, communities and organizations; including leadership in social services delivery systems.
Specific Objectives
- To enable students to identify, integrate and apply a body of social work knowledge and skills in human welfare, problem-solving process to facilitate change and social functioning at micro, mezzo and macro level of social work practice.
- To enable students acquire a body of knowledge in human behaviour and social functioning in order to address social and economic injustice, provide social welfare services, as well as taking leadership and supervisory roles in human service organizations.
- To enable students apply research and policy knowledge and skills to design, implement and evaluate social welfare service programmes.

LEVEL: MASTERS DEGREE IN SOCIAL WORK (NTA LEVEL 9)
Masters Degree in Social Work (MSW) is an advanced programme aimed at enabling students to acquire advanced professional qualification in Social Work. The MSW programme is intended for candidates who will perform advanced social work practice including managerial and supervisory roles, leadership and programme evaluation at micro, mezzo and macro levels; at national and international realm. The holder of this qualification will be able to apply advanced knowledge, skills and understanding in a wide and complex variety of contexts with substantial personal responsibility for the work of others and responsibility for designing, monitoring and evaluating social policies, welfare programmes, managing, and allocating national resources.
