List Of Fake Orphanages In Uganda
Historically, an orphanage is a residential institution, or group home, devoted to the care of orphans and other children who were separated from their biological families.

The Government under the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development has approved 70 Children homes across the country and vowed to shut down 569 homes which were found to be operating illegally.
The move is intended to address the growing concern of Street Children and children homes in the country.
State Minister for youth and Children affairs, Hon. Nakiwala Florence Kiyingi made the revelation while speaking to press on Friday.
The Minister noted that some of the illegal homes have been involved in the abuse of children rights for selfish gain while other have become conduits for child trafficking.
Consequently, the minister revealed that all the illegal children homes have up to June 30th, this year to close their operations.
“As government, we have noted with great concern, the proliferation of illegal children homes,” Hon. Nakiwala said.
“These illegal homes have turned into business enterprises to siphon money from donors at the expense of the Ugandan children.
“We have therefore approved 70 homes and the rest are going to be closed by 30th June or risk drastic action.”

How many orphanages are there in Uganda?
As a result of the economic and social struggles in Uganda, a number of unregulated orphanages have emerged, taking advantage of the situation. With over 300 unregulated orphanages, these systems have become an exploitative method to gain foreign donations.

How much does it cost to register an orphanage in Uganda?
The registration fee is $200, along with a $450 program fee for two weeks and $585 for four. Volunteer in Uganda orphanage fees cover accommodations and meals, support inside the country, orientation and full safety briefing, and project placement and onsite supervision.
