Marriage Registration In Uganda

Marriage, also called matrimony or wedlock, is a culturally and often legally recognized union between people called spouses. It establishes rights and obligations between them, as well as between them and their children, and between them and their in-laws.

Photocopy of Identifications documents for the couple and 2 witnesses. Cover letter from the sub -county chief of the sub county where the marriage took place. A duly filled Form B (marriage certificate in the Format prescribed by law) signed and stamped by the sub county chief/ or certified copy of the same.

You may request for a copy of your Certificate of Marriage (COM) at the LCR of the city or municipality where your marriage was held and registered. If your COM was duly submitted by the solemnizing officer, then the LCR will be able to provide you with the registered copy.

Requirement For Marriage Registration In Uganda

The intending couple should come with the following; Proof of citizenship for example a passport or national identification card. An LC 1 letter clearly stating duration of residence in the district in which the marriage is intended to be solemnized (this should not be less than 15 days).

Affidavit of Marriage.

Birth Certificate/Declaration of Age of Husband and Wife.

Witness Signature (2 witnesses).

Process Of Marriage Registration In Uganda

After your marriage has been registered with the LCRO, you can get a copy of your PSA marriage certificate within two to three months. However, there are certain steps that you need to follow first like setting an appointment schedule (see Walk-In Application Procedures below). Requirements: One valid ID.
