Maternal Health Care Services In Uganda
Accordingly, maternal healthcare services include antenatal care (ANC), delivery care, and postnatal care (PNC). ANC denotes the care provided by skilled health workers to pregnant women and adolescent girls to ensure the best health conditions for the mother and baby. Maternal health refers to the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth and the postnatal period. Each stage should be a positive experience, ensuring women and their babies reach their full potential for health and well-being.
Maternal Health Care Services In Uganda
Not only does access to quality maternal healthcare ensure the good health of a mother her good health also helps to ensure the good health of her newborn child and the rest of her family. Excerpts were categorized according to three main components of the maternal healthcare delivery system: skill birth attendant (SBA), enabling environment (EE) and referral system (RS).
In diverse contexts, individual factors, including maternal age, parity, education and marital status; household factors including family size and household wealth; and community factors including socioeconomic status, community health infrastructure, region, rural/urban residence, available health facilities. Improving maternal health is critical to saving the lives of hundreds of thousands of women who die due to complication from pregnancy and childbirth each year.
This includes improving access to family planning, antenatal care during pregnancy, improved management of normal delivery by skilled attendants, access to emergency obstetric and neonatal care when needed, and timely post-natal care for both mothers and newborns. The specific objectives of MCH Care focuses on the reduction of maternal, perinatal, infant and childhood mortality and morbidity and the promotion of reproductive health and the physical and psychosocial development of the child and adolescent within the family.
Maternal health refers to a woman’s health and well-being before, during, and after pregnancy and encompasses aspects of physical, mental, emotional, and social health. The World Health Organization defines maternal health as: “the health of women during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postnatal period.” Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, especially eclampsia, as well as sepsis, embolism and complications of unsafe abortion also claim a substantial number of lives. The complications leading to maternal death can occur without warning at any time during pregnancy and childbirth.
