NSSF Registration In Uganda

The National Social Security Fund is a quasi-government agency responsible for the collection, safekeeping, responsible investment, and distribution of retirement funds from employees of the private sector in Uganda who are not covered by the Government Retirement Scheme.

The employer must deduct 5% from the employee’s total gross monthly wage and add 10% of the total gross monthly wage making a total contribution of 15% for each employee. The payment of contributions must be paid by the 15th day of the following month.

A member who is forty-five years of age and above and who has made contributions to the Fund under section 7 of the Act for at least 10 years, is eligible to midterm access to his or her benefits, of a sum not exceeding 20 percent of his or her accrued benefits. A member who: Is a person with disability.

The Purpose Of NSSF Registration In Uganda

We provide social security protection to workers in the formal and informal sectors. We register members, receive their contributions, manage funds of the scheme, process and ultimately pay out benefits to eligible members or dependents.

Requirement for NSSF In Uganda

Mandatory: The Fund covers all employers who have 5 or more employees between 16 and 55 years of age, with the exception of employees under the Government Pensions scheme. It is the obligation of the employer to remit contributions to the Fund for his/her employees every month.

If you are in self employment, all you need is to visit any NSSF Office. Your original National Identity Card (ID Card), Alien Card or Passport. You will then pay a minimum amount of UGX 200, as an initial contribution to activate your card.

The Percentage Of NSSF In Uganda

An individual in employment is obligated to make a contribution of 5% of one’s gross earnings to the national social security fund. An individual who is an employer is also obligated to make contributions to the national social security fund for each employee, amounting to 10% of their gross pay.

The NSSF Computed In Uganda

The Fund is financed by the employees’ and employers’ contributions. The total contribution is 15% of the employees’ gross salary, of which 10% is paid by the employer and 5% is paid by the employee. Interest is computed based on the opening balances of the members’ funds less benefit paid during the year.

To make the payment, you need to know your NSSF Unique Payment Number (UPN) and NSSF’s Paybill which is 333300. The UPN is found on the E-slip you get after finishing uploading returns on the NSSF eServices portal. The UPN acts as your account number when doing the payment via Mpesa.
