Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

Birth registration is the process by which a child’s birth is recorded in the Civil Register by the government authority called National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA). Every child has a right to a name and nationality.

Birth certificates are important as it is to authenticate one’s identity and nationality; to gain access to health care and social services; access to education; access to inherit property; prevent child exploitation; access to legal work; for driver’s license, passport, to open bank account, and register to vote.

Birth registration is done by submitting the duly accomplished copy of the Certificate of Live Birth along with the parents’ marriage certificate (if the parents are married), and other documents to the office of the Local Civil Registrar in the city or municipality where the child was born.

Procedure For Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

Applicant should visit National Identification and Register Authority Office (NIRA) branch office near them and request for the application form :Application form.

Fill the form accurately and attach required documents and submit them to the attending officer who will verify your documents.

Application For Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

A Birth Notification Form.

A NIRA Birth Application Form Completed and Signed By the Notifier.

Copy of National ID of the Notifier.

National Identification Number (NIN)/NID of the Applicant.

Payment Receipt.

Process For Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

Fill out the Certificate of Live Birth form and submit it to the City Civil Registry Department together with other requirements. The receiving clerk will check if the requirements are complete and will assign a registry number to the client. Finally, the clerk will release the document to the registrant.

Requirement For Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

A Birth Notification Form.

A NIRA Birth Application Form Completed and Signed By the Notifier.

Copy of National ID of the Notifier.

National Identification Number (NIN)/NID of the Applicant.

Payment Receipt.

Complete name of the child (first, middle, last)

Complete name of the father.

Complete maiden name of the mother.

Date of birth (month, day, year)

Place of birth (city/municipality, province)

Whether or not registered late.

2- Copies of National IDs of both parents. 3- A bank payment receipt of UGX 5000- for the certificate. Please note that when your child is registered there will be no other requirements when they turn 16 years of age.

It takes 7 to 10 working days for Uganda Registration Services Bureau to process the birth certificate.

Delayed Online Birth Certificate Registration In Uganda

Four copies of the Certificate of Live Birth duly accomplished and signed by the parties involved.

Duly accomplished Affidavit of Delayed Registration found at the back of the Certificate of Live Birth. This must be done by the father, mother, or guardian.
