As the illness progresses, it might involve helping family members make difficult decisions about feeding or caring for their loved one. It can also involve support for family caregivers. Palliative care is a resource for anyone living with a serious illness, such as heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , cancer, dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and many others. Palliative care can be helpful at any stage of illness and is best provided soon after a person is diagnosed.

Palliative care should be offered when someone has a life-limiting condition or chronic illness and they need intensive treatment to either ease the pain and manage the condition or cure the condition completely. Although it can include end of life care, palliative care is much broader and can last for longer. Having palliative care doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re likely to die soon – some people have palliative care for years. End of life care offers treatment and support for people who are near the end of their life. Yes.
