A passport is an official travel document issued by a government that contains a person’s identity. A person with a passport can travel to and from foreign countries more easily and access consular assistance. A passport certifies the personal identity and nationality of its holder.
The diplomatic passport is given to Ugandan diplomats or those who carry out diplomatic duties and specific members of the family like spouses. The official passport is given to high ranking government officials. But family members are not entitled to the official passport.

Purpose Of Passport Registration In Uganda
A passport is used to verify one’s country of citizenship. If traveling outside your country, it is used to regain entry into your country of citizenship. Passports include your photo, name, birth date, gender and physical characteristics. For Uganda citizens, some countries only require a passport for re-entry.

Recommender must have a copy of the National ID of the Recommender.
Applicant must attach a copy of National ID or National Identification Number.
Period For Passport Registration In Uganda
It takes 10 working days to process a passport with the regular fees, Ugx 250,000 and 2 working days for the Express Process at Ugx 400,000.
Cost For Passport Registration In Uganda
The Passport costs Uganda Shillings UGX 250,000 for normal applications or UGX 400,000 for Express applications (UGX 250,000 for Ordinary Passports and UGX 150,000 for Express Processing making the total of UGX400,000), UGX 400,000 for Official Passports and UGX 500,000 for Diplomatic Passports.

Blue Passport – General public.
White Passport – Government officials.
Diplomatic Passport – Ugandan diplomats and senior government officials.
Orange Passport – Individuals who have not studied beyond class 10.

Type Of Photo For Passport Registration In Uganda
Yes, all applicants need to carry two coloured photographs (size 4.5 x 3.5 cm) with white background. Applicants should affix photographs on the printed copy of the online filled application form.
Payment For Passport Registration In Uganda
Applicants visit Passport Office without appointment as Walk-in can pay in cash.
Online Payment can be made using any one of the following modes:
Credit/ Debit Card (MasterCard and Visa)
Internet Banking (State Bank of India(SBI) and Other Banks)
SBI Bank Challan.

Office Location For Passport Registration In Uganda
The main Passport Office is situated at the Ministry of Internal Affairs Plot 75 Jinja Road (entrance is on Old Portbell Rd. The other Passport Offices are located at the RDC Building Mbarara, The Regional Administration Block, Republic Street, Mbale and in Gulu (soon opening).
