POSTGRADUATE DIPLOMA IN EDUCATION (PGDE)

The Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) programmes aim to prepare university graduates to become primary, secondary school and junior college teachers.

Student teachers in the PGDE (Primary) and PGDE (Secondary) tracks will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to teach two school subjects (or one in the case of single-subject specialists).

Those in the PGDE (Junior College) track will be equipped to teach one subject at the JC level and one at the Secondary level; except for Economics and General Paper, the junior college teaching subject and its paired secondary level teaching subject are related.

Rationale, goals and objectives of the programm

(i)  Rationale

To offer opportunity to non-professional graduate teachers and graduates who want to make teaching a career to be trained.

(ii Goal and Objectives

The programme is geared towards attracting and training graduate non-professional teachers, exposing and acquainting them with basic teaching skills from different fields of educational studies, and giving them the opportunity to practice and fine-tune their teaching skills.

Employment Prospects

Graduates from the programme can gain employment in the Ghana Education Service and other educational institutions as professional teachers.

 Entry Requirements

            A first degree/HND from a recognised University /Polytechnic in any field of study.

            A satisfactory  performance at a screening interview organised by the department.
