Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, is the primary medical degree awarded by medical schools in countries that follow the tradition of the United Kingdom. The historical degree nomenclature states that they are two separate undergraduate degrees. ∎ A Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is an international undergraduate medical degree. It is equal to a Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree. ∎ It is offered in many countries in Asia and Africa. ∎ It takes 6 years to complete this degree.

The basic difference between the MBBS & MD is that MBBS is an undergraduate course that is pursued by candidates who wish to make their career in the field of medicine. Whereas, MD is a postgraduate course that can be pursued by candidates who have completed their MBBS. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a 6 years professional programme for which the students are awarded the degrees in Medicine and Surgery upon successful completion of the programme.

Training leading to the degree of Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) lasts Six years.

Obtained two advanced level passes in Biology and Chemistry taken at the same sitting of the Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE), must also have done Physics or Mathematics and obtained at least a subsidiary pass in it.

Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) or its equivalent with at least 5 passes. Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) or its equivalent with at least 2 principal passes. Diploma holders must have passed with at least a credit.
