Requirements For Certificate In Nursing In Tanzania

How will the course be taught, especially during COVID 19 pandemic? 

The delivery mode is face-to-face.  However, during COVID 19 students were able to continue with their studies. The university offered asynchronous programme where the students were able to access lessons through Zoom and recorded lessons that were shared online as per regulatory body approval.

Do you have campuses outside Dar es Salaam?

So far, we have only one campus in Tanzania at Dar es Salaam, Salama House Urambo Street.

Do you have hostel service?

We do not offer hostel services for undergraduate students. 

Do you have other programmes apart from BScN for undergraduates?

Currently, School of Nursing and Midwifery offers Post-RN Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Post-RN BScN) programme in Tanzania.

How many days will I be attending classes?

Two days a week.

What is the duration of the programme?

The duration of the programme is two and a half years. However, due to unavoidable circumstances, an extension may be granted.

After graduation, will I be going for an internship?

Yes, Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC) and the Ministry of Health require all graduates to go for one year of internship.

What are the admission criteria for Post-RN BScN programme?

An applicant must:

  • Have Diploma in Nursing with GPA of 3.0 and above
  • Have A pass grade D in Chemistry, Physics, Maths, English and Biology 
  • Be registered with Tanzania Nursing and Midwifery Council (TNMC)
  • Have nursing certificates and license
  • Have an experience of not less than two years and must have AVN certificate.

Do you have admission test?

Yes, shortlisted applicants will sit for admission test and oral interviews on the same day.

When does the programme commence?

Programme commencement depends on TCU (Tanzania Commission​ for Universities) almanac for admissions in a particular academic year, usually programme commences in November. ​

Is it possible to transfer to Aga Khan University?

Yes, it is allowed if one meets the admission criteria.

I failed Maths, Physics or English, do I qualify?

You must have all the required qualifications to be shortlisted for admission process. Hence, a fail in any subject or missing any requirement disqualifies you.

Do you admit applicants from outside Dar es Salaam?

This is a work-study programme; hence, admitted students from upcountry will be required to organise for a part-time nursing job.

Do you admit foreign applicants?

Any applicant meeting all the admission requirements will be considered for admission.

How many students do you admit per year?

The admission capacity per year is 50 students.

Do you admit applicants directly from secondary school (form six leaver)?

This is an upgrading programme designed for registered nurses, therefore fresh applicants from secondary schools are not eligible.

Yes, support is accorded to applicants to apply online. 

Do you have application forms (hard copies)?

All applications are done online, no hard copies will be accepted.

How much is the application fee?

Currently application fee is Tsh​ 30,000.

How do I pay application fee?

Application fee and tuition fee may be paid through bank deposit, M-Pesa and through online payment. You will be provided with details for making payments.

Do you have scholarships and what is the criteria for getting one?  

Yes, we have partial scholarships which are provided on merit. Students are required to apply for scholarships.

How much is the tuition fee?

Tuition fees and other costs are subject to change and are determined each year.
