A diplomatic passport is a passport which is issued to someone who must travel internationally on official state business. Diplomatic passports are classically given to career diplomats (Ambassadors, consuls, attaches, etc.) The diplomatic passport is given to Ugandan diplomats or those who carry out diplomatic duties and specific members of the family like spouses. The official passport is given to high ranking government officials. But family members are not entitled to the official passport.

If you are not a Foreign Service Officer and do not qualify for a diplomatic passport but you are traveling for official business you are required to have an official passport. The diplomatic passport is given to Ugandan diplomats or those who carry out diplomatic duties and specific members of the family like spouses. The official passport is given to high ranking government officials. But family members are not entitled to the official passport.

A diplomatic passport holder comes with a host of benefits. One such is that this passport holder does not pay taxes on income from countries outside the host country. The period of validity of a diplomatic passport, unless limited by the Department to a shorter period, is five years from the date of issue, or so long as the bearer maintains his or her diplomatic status, whichever is shorter. If an individual is eligible and successfully obtains a diplomatic passport, then his/her immediate family can also apply for the diplomatic passport which allows diplomats to travel freely with their family throughout the world.

Cost Of Diplomatic Passport In Uganda

The Passport costs Uganda Shillings UGX 250,000 for normal applications or UGX 400,000 for Express applications, UGX 400,000 for Official Passports and UGX 500,000 for Diplomatic Passports. All fees are exclusive of bank charges which vary from bank to bank i.e. UGX 2200 to UGX 3000.
