Requirements For Driving Permit Renewal In Uganda
Driving licences are renewed for one, three, and five years. You will get an SMS reminder to renew your current licence before it expires. UDLS does not handle any payments, and we do not accept cash at our branches. Payments for services are made via the URA website. A driving licence becomes lapsed 24 months after the expiry date indicated on the document.
Applicants are advised to only submit their application in a period that falls within 3 months of their departure from Uganda. The validity of an approved E-Visa is three months starting from the issue date. Go to your nearest DLTC with the following Identity document (ID) and a copy of your ID, old driving licence card or valid Ugandan passport. Four black-and-white ID photographs (before you have photographs taken confirm)
You can renew your license up to six months before expiration and up to two months after it’s expired. About two months prior to the expiration you should receive a renewal notice in the mail. This notice will tell you which Uganda drivers license renewal options are available. You can apply in advance of the expiry date if you like. The new licence will be valid from the date your application is approved instead of the expiry date of your current licence.

Original and photocopy of government-issued ID that bears your picture and signature.
Original driver’s license.
Copy of the medical examination certificate (only electronically transmitted to the LTO by an accredited clinic)
Expired licence (original copy)
Proof of payment (payment registration number); how to generate a payment registration slip.
Processing For Driving Permit Renewal In Uganda
Go to the UDLS offices with the proof of payment/payment registration number, mandatory identification document, an original copy of the licence you want to renew; if you lost or damaged it, please go to the procedure of getting a duplicate licence. UDLS will issue the renewed licence.
