In Uganda, drug shops are often the first point of care for communities, and many of them already play a role in delivering various family planning methods, including condoms and oral contraceptives. The shops are also run by operators who have medical training, including nurses and nursing assistants.
A shop where you can buy medicine and cosmetics is called a drugstore. In some drugstores, you can also buy simple meals and snacks. A Drug Shop is the place within a chemist’s or drugstore, or within a supermarket or other business, where you can get prescription drugs.
Requirements for Application Applicants for a drug shop license should submit the following at the time of application; Duly filled application forms for certificate of suitability of premises Duly filled application forms for the license Proof of payment of the prescribed inspection fees.
Legal Requirements For Registering A Drug Shop In Uganda
All types of drugs or cosmetics businesses that fall under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, are required to obtain a drug license before starting/establishing a drug or cosmetics business. The Drugs and Cosmetics Act covers all drugs businesses, including allopathic, homoeopathic, ayurvedic, Siddha or Unani drugs.

Be ready to spend UGX 400,000 to UGX 2,000,000 on premises depending on location and size. Location size/Area. The minimum area of 10 square meter is required to start a medical shop or wholesale outlet. In case, the drug Shop business combines retail and wholesale, a minimum of 15 square meter is required.
