UBTEB A Level Curriculum
The Board is mandated to conduct examinations for programmes with curricular designed and recognized by the National Curriculum Development Centre (NCDC) and programmes accredited by National Council for Higher Education (NCHE). The Board held a consultative meeting with Academic Registrars and subject specialists from Tertiary Institutions and Universities on 9th -12th March 2018 at UBTEB Secretariat.
The aim of the harmonization of the curriculum was to streamline the course contents and avoid overlapping contents as well as enriching course content as per the programme of study taking into consideration the much required competencies by the world of work. The main output of this harmonization was a consolidated examination syllabi for different academic programmes.
While opening the workshop, Onesmus Oyesigye UBTEB Executive Secretary argued the participants to make use of the existing curricular and harmonize them in line with the demands of world of work. “UBTEB is mandated to ensure that there is coordination and streamlining of programmes examined in liaison with relevant stakeholders including Government Departments and Agencies” Oyesigye stated. He further informed participants that following the new policy guidelines on the accreditation and assessment of Post O’Level by Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education and Sports in November 2017, UBTEB was required to implement and harmonization of the programmes’ curricular is one of the big steps forward.
As UBTEB continues to accredit more training institutions as examinations centers, it is important to note that with harmonized curriculum, the newly accredited institutions will be encouraged to adopt the already harmonized programmes.
This will enable us to ensure that students graduate with harmonized/uniform competencies. The programmes harmonized included Certificates and Diploma programmes in Journalism, Accountancy, Cosmetology, Journalism, and Information Technology among others.
Following the new policy directive on the assessment of post O’level and A’level, Universities and other tertiary institutions have complied and have been accredited by UBTEB as examination centres.
These include; St Lawrence University, Bishop Stuart university, Bishop Barharm University College, Great Lakes regional University, Multitech Business School, ISBAT University, Uganda martyrs university, Nsamizi Institute for Social Development among others.
