The Commissioner general of Prisons informs the general public that recruitment of Recruit Warders / Wardresses into the Uganda Prisons Service shall take place throughout the country from the Opening Date to the Deadline at all Fifteen Regional Prisons headquarters at Kabale, Mbarara, Masaka, Kampala, Mukono, Jinja, Mbale, Soroti, Moroto, Lira, Gulu, Arua, Masindi, Fort portal and Mubende.
UGANDA PRISONS SERVICE RECRUITMENT QUALIFICATIONS:
All Applicants must be: –
1) Ugandan Citizens aged 18-30 years.
2) In possession of O’level certificates with at least 4 credits including one in English and a pass in Mathematics. (University graduates and Diploma holders should NOT apply).
3) Physically fit.
UGANDA PRISONS SERVICE RECRUITMENT REQUIREMENTS
1) Handwritten application addressed to the Secretary Prisons Council; with 03 photocopies of certificates/result slips.
2) With three (03) recent passport size photographs.
3) Photocopy of National citizenship identity card and ID of former school.
4) Of good conduct with no criminal record and a letter of recommendation from L.C. I chairpersons of their villages endorsed by L.C II and L.C III chairpersons of Districts of Origin.
5) A reliable telephone contact of the applicant.
All intending candidates are advised to report at the designated recruitment centers on the dates indicated.
Successful applicants should be ready to undergo a minimum Nine months basic Prisons Officer’s Training Course.
Effective appointment into the service is subject to successful completion of training.
CONDITIONS
1) Ready to undergo both oral and written interviews.
2) Ready to undergo thorough Medical Examination as part of the interview to confirm suitability to undergo rigorous physical training.
HOW TO APPLY TO UGANDA PRISONS SERVICE RECRUITMENT
Applications are invited from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill vacant posts of Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Prisons existing in the Uganda Prisons Service (UPS).
Applications should be filled in triplicate on Public Service Commission Form 3 (2008) and submitted to the Secretary, Prisons Authority, P.O. Box 7191, KAMPALA, Social Security House, 4th Floor, Plot 4, Jinja Road, not later than the proposed deadline. Handwritten applications are also acceptable.
The application forms are obtainable from the Prisons Authority Secretariat on 4th Floor, Social Security House, Plot 4, Jinja Road, Kampala; Public Service Commission or Ministries/Departments and District Service Commission Offices or can be downloaded from the Public Service Commission website: www.psc.go.ug.
The applications should bear the title as well as the Reference Number of the post applied for.
1 Applicants should attach three recent passport size photos, three sets of certified photocopies of their academic transcripts and certificates and National identity card (ID). Uganda Prisons Service Recruitment Portal
2 Applicants subsequently shortlisted for oral interviews shall be required to present certified copies and originals of the academic transcripts and certificates at the time of sitting interviews.
3 Applicants should apply for a maximum of only two (2) posts clearly indicating the first and second choice against the post applied for.
Interviews shall be conducted at the 15 Regional Prisons Headquarters.
Only shortlisted candidates shall be invited for interviews on the dates to be communicated to them.
Successful applicants should be ready to undergo a minimum of nine-month basic Prisons Officer’s Training Course.
Effective appointment into the service is subject to successful completion of the training.
Officers already in Government Service should not apply.
All applicants must be physically and medically fit and should not have been convicted of any criminal offence in any court of law.
In addition, successful candidates must be prepared to undergo a Twelve (12) months Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Prisons Officers’ course at the Prisons Staff College and Training School plus three (03) months attachment. Cadet Officers in scientific and professional fields must be prepared to work in a Penal Institution on general duties for at least two years before deployment to their respective areas of specialization.
