1 QUESTION: WHO IS A NURSE/MIDWIFE
SUGGESTED ANSWER: “A nurse is a health professional who is trained and certified to give care to patients. Just like other medics, nurses can choose where they want to work and the type of work they want to do by specializing in a preferred field. A nurse is differentiated from other health professions by their scope of practice and approach to patient care. The general role of a nurse is to liaise with physicians, the patient, and the patient’s family and create a plan of care that improves the quality of life for anyone who is ailing. The great part about a nursing career is that nurses can work both independently and interdependently.A midwife is a health professional trained to support and care for women during pregnancy, labour and birth. They help you to stay healthy in pregnancy and, if no complications arise, to give birth with little intervention. Midwives also care for you and your baby in the first few weeks following the birth.”
2 QUESTION: WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A NURSE/MIDWIFE?
SUGGESTED ANSWER: “Nurses are responsible for recognizing patients’ symptoms, taking measures within their scope of practice to administer medications, providing other measures for symptom alleviation, and collaborating with other professionals to optimize patients’ comfort and families’ understanding and adaptation. The main role of a midwife is to prepare women for the delivery of new life and to also provide support and guidance during all stages of pregnancy, throughout the process of labor and also during the early stages of the postnatal stage. It is a role I believe I will excel in, and I fully understand the high levels of responsibility that come with the position.”
3 QUESTION: TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF AND WHY YOU WANT TO BECOME A NURSE/MIDWIFE?
SUGGESTED ANSWER: “I am someone who takes my work seriously, and I understand there is no room for error in respect of being a nurse/midwife in the undertaking of your professional duties and also in respect of the advice you offer patients during their time under your care. I am an exceptionally hard worker, always remain calm under pressure, i know how to communicate effectively to achieve the desired outcome, and will always uphold the values of the profession. I am extremely caring and compassionate person, but I am also someone who is resilient, confident in my abilities and will always perform to the high standards necessary in my role as a nurse/midwife.”
4 QUESTION: WHAT SPECIALTY WITHIN NURSE/MIDWIFERY INTERESTS YOU THE MOST AND WHY?GUIDED ANSWER: “Nurse/Midwifery is not a one-dimensional course; there are several sub-divisions and categories within the profession that you can choose from. The interviewer wants to check your dedication towards the field and see how well-informed you are. Revisit your training portfolio and just try to recollect the areas that you found the most interesting and appealing. For instance, you may be keen on learning about community care and education for pregnant mothers as to how to take care of themselves and the baby. Discuss the various areas in nurse/midwifery where you’d want to specialize in to show the employer how versatile and diverse your knowledge regarding the profession is.”
5 QUESTION: WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN FIVE YEARS?GUIDED ANSWER: “Here, the interviewer is trying to gauge how well aware you are about the future prospects in nurse/midwifery. The question also aims to check how committed you will be to the job or the institution. Talk about your future plans and goals as honestly as possible. It gives the employer an insight into your personality. Do your research on the future prospects offered by the health sectors itself and discuss the long-term plans you have for yourself.”
