Christina McConnell Full Scholarship Programme for Ugandan Citizens

An opportunity to study at the International School of Uganda.

The International School of Uganda (ISU) invites applications for its Scholarship Programme to study the renowned  International Baccalaureate Programmes.  The prospective candidates are Ugandan nationals of secondary school age who are socio-economically disadvantaged. They are students who demonstrate high scholastic and emotional maturity, who are talented and gifted individuals and who have the aptitude to thrive in an international setting and become future leaders in Uganda. 

ISU will provide a scholarship for a successful candidate until graduation from ISU. A scholarship is available for:

  • one S3 (Ugandan Senior 3); and 
  • one S4 (Ugandan Senior 4) candidate.

ISU will offer a full Scholarship covering 100% of the school fees. 

Selection for the successful candidate will be made by the Scholarship Committee. Only successful applicants will be contacted.

Merit & Needs Based Scholarship

ISU’s Merit & Needs Based Scholarship Programme

ISU invites outstanding students, who have completed O Levels or will be completing their IGCSEs / IB MYP, to apply for its partial Scholarship Programme.  This programme aims to provide a pre-university education to academically, artistically or sportingly gifted students for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme.  The programme seeks to identify exceptional students who have the aptitude to thrive in an academically rich and culturally diverse international setting, set a good example to their peers and become future leaders in their community.

Scholarships will be considered for the following:
  •  Academic
  •  Arts (one or more of Visual Arts, Drama, Music)
  •  Sports

ISU will provide a scholarship for a successful candidate for a period of 2 years, 2020-2022, covering up to a maximum of 75% of the school fees.

The Beacon Scholarship

The International School of Uganda is pleased to offer The Beacon Scholarship at our school for students with strong leadership qualities.

The Beacon Scholarship is a change-maker programme that offers access for financially disadvantaged students to top tier secondary schools in their home country, and undergraduate programmes of study at world class universities in the UK. The programme includes leadership training and development, a strong mentoring structure, and a goal-setting performance management system. All applicants must be able to demonstrate that they are ‘Change-makers’ i.e.

  • They are already making a difference now; and
  • A capacity to take people with them.

The Beacon Scholarship for Senior School

For students to gain admission and attend at a Beacon Partner School. Tuition (and boarding) fees are split three ways: 1/3 School; 1/3 Beacon; 1/3 Scholar Parents/Sponsors/Guardians.
 
Eligibility requirements:

  1. Must be a Ugandan citizen
  2. Age 13-18
  3. Must show evidence of strong leadership capabilities in four areas:
  • Academic excellence;
  • Achievement in sport, music, or drama;
  • Social Influence & Communication;
  • Citizenship.
  1. Annual Gross Household Income must not exceed US$80,000

The Process:

  1. Candidates register on The Beacon Scholarship website, download a Nomination Form and forward it to their School Head;
  2. Beacon reviews the Nomination and issues an Application Form to suitable candidates;
  3. Beacon reviews Application Forms and shortlists candidates to be invited for interview and assessment;
  4. Parents of shortlisted candidates are invited to submit a Financial Disclosure form;
  5. A Beacon School invites the applicant for interview and assessment;
  6. A decision is made on whether or not a Beacon Scholarship is to be awarded;
  7. An Award Letter is sent by Beacon to the candidate and their Parents/Guardians/Sponsors;
  8. An Award Acceptance Form is completed by Parents/Guardians/Sponsors;
  9. A fee deposit is paid by Parents/Guardians/Sponsors to the Beacon School;
  10. A Mentor is assigned to the Beacon Scholar by the School.

Beacon Scholarship Application Form for Senior School

Applications for the school year 2020-21 will be received until 28th February 2020.

The Beacon Scholarship for University

For undergraduate study, medicine excluded. Candidates must already hold an offer from a Beacon Partner university in order to qualify. Tuition and maintenance fees and allowance for one return economy airfare are split three ways: 1/3 University Partner; 1/3 Beacon; 1/3 Scholar Parents/Sponsors/Guardians.
 
Beacon Partner Universities currently include: University of Bristol; University of Cambridge; Cardiff University; London School of Economics; University of Surrey.
 
Eligibility requirements:

  1. Must be a Ugandan citizen
  2. Must show evidence of strong leadership capabilities in four areas:
  • Academic excellence;
  • Achievement in sport, music, or drama;
  • Social Influence & Communication;
  • Citizenship.
  1. Capacity to study independently overseas
  2. Commitment to return to home country within 1 month of degree completion
  3. Annual Gross Household Income must not exceed US$100,000
