Kabale University School of Medicine (KABSOM) is the Faculty of Medicine of Kabale University, a public university in Kigezi sub-region of southwestern Uganda.Kabale University School of Medicine was started to fill the big training gap for health professionals in the Kigezi sub-region and surrounding areas where attracting and retaining highly qualified human resource in healthcare provision was not easy due to prevailing socioeconomic realities of working in a rural-based environment.

Knowing that locally trained medical graduates are more likely to practice in rural settings, Kabale University School of Medicine was therefore established to contribute to the production of the direly needed health professionals who can improve the health of the people and communities in the Kigezi sub-region, the Great Lakes region (as a whole) and beyond.
