Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing

Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing (LSCN) is strategically located in Northern Uganda, Lira District, Lira Municipality, Adyel, approximately 500 meters from Lira Town centre and adjacent to the Lira Regional Referral Hospital.

LSCN is a nurse training school founded by the government of Uganda. It has been in operation since 1939 under the Ministry of Health (MoH) and now under Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) following reforms in the two ministries.

Courses Offered

Lira School of Comprehensive Nursing runs the following programs:

  • Diploma in Comprehensive Nursing
  • Diploma in Midwifery
  • Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing
  • Certificate in Midwifery, Primary Health Care (Community outreach).

Graduation ceremonies are help for students that successfully complete their courses.

Admission Requirement

  • Applicant MUST have been in school 3 years prior to application
  • Applicant MUST have completed their A-Level and obtained at least 2 principal passes, one of which MUST be in Biology.
  • Applicant MUST satisfy the requirements of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).

 Diploma in Midwifery [DM] (Direct Entry)

Entry Requirements

  • Applicant MUST have completed their A-Level and obtained at least 2 principal passes, one of which MUST be in Biology.
  • Applicant MUST satisfy the requirements of the Joint Admissions Board (JAB) of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES).
  • Applicant MUST have been in school within 3 years prior to application.

Certificate in Comprehensive Nursing [CCN]

Entry Requirements

  • Completion or possession of an O-Level Certificate with passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Must be 18 years and/or above.
  • Must have been in school within the previous 3 years before applying.

Candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) interview panel.

Certificate in Midwifery [CM]

Entry Requirements

  • Completion or possession of an O-Level Certificate with passes in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology.
  • Must be 18 years and/or above.
  • Must have been in school within the previous 3 years before applying.

Candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Sports (MoES) and the Ministry of Health (MoH) interview panel.
